Effect of creatine addition in feeds containing animal meals on the performance and carcass yield of broilers Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Carvalho,CMC; Fernandes,EA; Carvalho,AP de; Maciel,MP; Caires,RM; Fagundes,NS.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance and carcass characteristics of broilers fed exclusively vegetable diets and diets containing animal meal with the addition of creatine or not after day 8. In the experiment, 1080 one-day-old male chicks were distributed according to a completely randomized experimental design into six treatments with six replicates each. A control diet based on corn and soybean meal was formulated, to which animal meals and creatine were included or not. Diets were formulated to contain equal mineral (calcium, phosphorus and sodium) and amino acid (available methionine + cystine, lysine and threonine) levels. The following treatments were applied: A. control (diet based on corn and soybean meal); B. control +...

Greenhouse and field assessment of different organic compounds against guava-parasitic Meloidogyne enterolobii Bragantia
Almeida,Alexandre Macedo; Souza,Ricardo Moreira; Gomes,Vicente Martins; Miranda,Guilherme Bessa.
Guava decline is a complex disease involving Meloidogyne enterolobii and Fusarium solani and it has caused major direct losses to Brazilian growers. Although several strategies have been sought to control the nematode, the use of organic soil amendments is currently the best approach to manage this disease. To assess the best amount of meat and bone meal (MBM) to be incorporated into the soil, guava seedlings inoculated with M. enterolobii were treated with 1-5% v/v of the MBM. Ninety days later variables related to nematode reproduction and plant development were evaluated, which indicated a potential nematicidal effect of the MBM at 3%. Another experiment assessed nematode- and plant-related variables 90 days after treatment of the seedlings with MBM,...

Nutritional and microbiological evaluation of meat and bone meal produced in the state of Minas Gerais Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Sartorelli,SA; Bertechini,AG; Fassani,EJ; Kato,RK; Fialho,ET.
The present study investigated the chemical composition and metabolizable energy levels of ten meat and bone meals (MBM) produced in Minas Gerais state (Experiment I) and evaluated the growth performance of broilers fed with diets containing those MBM (Experiment II). In the first experiment, energy values (apparent metabolizable energy [AME] and corrected apparent metabolizable energy [AMEn]) of ten different MBM were determined using the traditional method with total collection of excreta. Four hundred forty 21 day-old Hubbard broilers were used. A reference corn and soybean meal-based diet was replaced in 20% by the feed containing MBM to be tested. A completely randomized experimental design was used with eleven treatments (one reference diet and ten...

Prediction equations for energy values of animal meals obtained using meta-analysis R. Bras. Zootec.
Oliveira,Camilla Roana Costa de; Rabello,Carlos Bôa-Viagem; Souza,Janete Gouveia de; Nascimento,Guilherme Rodrigues do; Lopes,Elainy Cristina; Silva,Almir Ferreira da; Silva,Jaqueline de Cássia Ramos da; Macambira,Gabriel Miranda.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine prediction equations to estimate the nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn) values of animal meals used in broiler diets through meta-analysis. A bibliographic review was undertaken with studies conducted in Brazil from 2000 to 2016 to catalogue information on AMEn values and the following chemical elements in the composition of the feedstuffs: crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), gross energy (GE), mineral matter (MM), calcium (Ca), and phosphorus (P). Groups were also catalogued and formed according to sex and age of birds. Chemical correlations were analyzed, and a multiple linear regression model with the stepwise procedure was used to examine the association between the...

Protein sources and digestive enzyme activities in jundiá (Rhamdia quelen) Scientia Agricola
Lazzari,Rafael; Radünz Neto,João; Pedron,Fabio de Araújo; Loro,Vania Lucia; Pretto,Alexandra; Gioda,Carolina Rosa.
Digestive enzymes activity influence feed utilization by fish, and its understanding is important to optimize diet formulation. This study reports the digestive enzyme activities of jundiá juveniles fed diets with protein sources. Fish were fed six experimental diets for 90 days: MBY (meat and bone meal + sugar cane yeast), SY (soybean meal + sugar cane yeast), S (soybean meal), MBS (meat and bone meal + soybean meal), FY (fish meal + sugar cane yeast) and FS (fish meal + soybean meal), and then sampled every 30 days and assayed in two intestine sections for digestive enzymes - trypsin, chymotrypsin and amylase - activities; gastric protease was assayed in the stomach. Digestive and hepatosomatic index, intestinal quotient, digestive tract length and...

The use of animal byproducts in broiler feeds: use of animal co-products in broilers diets Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Caires,CMI; Fernandes,EA; Fagundes,NS; Carvalho,AP; Maciel,MP; Oliveira,BR.
This study aimed at evaluating live performance and carcass yield of broilers fed vegetarian diets or containing different animal byproduct meals after 8 days of age. In the experiment, 1080 one-day-old male chicks were distributed in a completely randomized experimental design with 6 treatments with 6 replicates. Diets were based on corn and soybean meal, and included or not animal meals, maintaining constant levels of minerals (calcium, phosphorus, and sodium) and amino acids (methionine, cystine, lysine, and threonine), The following treatments were applied: T1. Control (corn and soybean diet); T2. Inclusion of 5% meat and bone meal (MBM); T3. Inclusion of 5% blood meal (BM); T4. Inclusion of 5% feather meal (FM); T5. Inclusion of 5% poultry offal meal...
